ISU SUMMER SESSION AND ALUMNI WEEKENDS

Introduction

Every year, during the ISU Summer Session Programme (SSP), alumni from the host country join their forces to organise activities for the famous alumni weekend. Each alumni association is free to organise new events, although some traditional events, such as the "Space Masquerade" party, have become key features of the alumni weekend! In 2003 and 2006, ISU-France and the European Alumni Association organised the Alumni weekend held in Strasbourg.

In August 2006, we came back to Strasbourg!

SSP 2006

After Australia (SSP'04) and Canada (SSP'05), the SSP and the alumni weekend went back to Strasbourg in 2006! In the summer of 2006, ISU and its Summer Session Programme (SSP) Staff hosted the SSP’06 (+100 students) and the traditional Weekend Alumni events in the ISU central campus in Strasbourg, with more than 50 alumni. The ISU Alumni Weekend 2006 took place from Thursday, August 3rd to Sunday, August 6th.

During this long weekend, ISU alumni and guests enjoyed a conference entitled "Space Alumni: The Challenge is in your hands!", where they presented to / and heard from their peers, renewed / made professional and personal contacts, met the brand new SSP'06 class, and had fun during social events.

The 2006 alumni conference

Simpson

The alumni conference (organised on Aug. 3 and 4, 2006) was a success, with +20 presentations by alumni and SSP'06 students. Introductions were given at the beginning of the conference by the ISU-France President Claire Jolly (MSS'99) and Dr. Michael Simpson, President of ISU. Jim Burke (NASA JL and CalTech), a long time supporter of ISU made the keynote speech. He stated that national and international challenges do abound, but ISU alumni are well placed to contribute in building a great future for cooperation in space endeavors.

You will find here, a document with the +20 presentations that were made during the alumni conference. Please note the presentations are currently being uploaded, and the operation is being completed.

And... merci !

Many alumni have contributed to the preparation of the 2006 alumni weekend. Thanks to Claude Rousseau (MSS’99), our “logistical master” and local point of contact, Fabienne Ramiandrasoa (SSP’00) who put together the alumni WE booklet, Erik Laan (SSP’98) co-organizer of the alumni conference, Norbert Frishauf (SSP’97) with the glider plane activity, Fathi Karouia (MSS’00) our football game organiser, Felipe Dengra (SSP'04), our space masquerade enthusiast, and Bérénice Guédel (SSP’04) who provided key information to participants. Thanks also to our friends at HE Space Operations for their sponsorship.

Finally, thanks to the ISU staff for welcoming us and facilitating this great 2006 alumni weekend, especially the wonderful ISU SSP staff led by Mathieu Gruber and the regretted Morla Milne.

Next alumni weekend: Beijing in summer 2007, during the SSP'07. See many of you there. Claire Jolly (MSS'99), Coordinator ISU Alumni WE 2006.
